Hydro-Québec is currently investigating technological solutions to reduce turbine mortalities of downstream migrating American eels at the Beauharnois dam. In order to do so, a precise characterization of their behaviour in the Beauharnois Canal must first be established.
The method chosen was acoustic telemetry, which can give location and depth of tagged fish with a resolution of a only a few meters when passing through an array of acoustic receptors.
MILIEU was responsible for the installation and maintenance of the acoustic receptors, as well as data verification and transmission.
